Early years: Jean-Paul was born in Melbourne, Australia and began his performing career in the 1960’s with Australia’s longest running theatre company, the New Theatre.
In 1970 Jean-Paul was fortunate to become a mime student of a newly arrived Dutchman, Wim Burkunk. Wim was a student of the creator of Corpreal Mime Etienne Decroux. His disciplined illusionist technique stunned the performing world with his famous student Marcel Marceau. Six months with Wim eventually took Jean-Paul to Canada to join a mime company in Toronto and in 1974 to England to work with London Mime Theatre alongside Nola Rae, a wonderful Australian performer living and performing in Europe.
Australian Work: Returning to Australia in 1976, Jean-Paul had a diverse career which saw him perform in Cabaret, Theatre restaurants and Stand Up Comedy as well as a host of character roles for television and film.
For more than three decades, Jean-Paul has been committed to theatre in education. Performing and teaching, he has also contributed to films and drama text books for schools.
Establishment of Clown Doctors: In 1997 Jean-Paul established the Humour foundation, a charity that is devoted to delivering humour and laughter to the health care sector. It’s core program has now grown and encompasses more than 55 professional performers working as Clown Doctors in hospitals around Australia. (www.clowndoctors.com.au)
Humanitarian Work: Jean-Paul’s work has also taken him to war torn East Timor and Afghanistan, where he has established a charity for ongoing support to Afghan Children (www.operationkch.com).
